AION 2 Stigma System: the Build Layer
What the stigma system is
Stigma is AION 2's build-customization layer: a board of slots you fill with stigma stones that modify and extend your class kit. Two clerics with different boards are effectively different characters — it's where 'class identity' becomes 'your build'.
How the board works
The framework (exact slot counts and UI evolve with patches — the in-game screen is authoritative): you place stigma stones into a board, stones interact with each other, and the layout as a whole — not any single stone — defines your build. That's why every build guide on this site talks about layouts by session type rather than 'the one best stone list'.
The one decision that matters: session-typed layouts
The strongest habit from day one: maintain two directions —
- Group layout — throughput for your group role (healing output, tank mitigation, lockdown control).
- Solo layout — damage and self-sustain for daily farming and the 40–44 stretch.
Swap costs are cheap relative to the time a wrong layout wastes. See this logic applied per class: Cleric, Gladiator, Chanter, Sorcerer, Ranger, Assassin, Spiritmaster, Templar.
Swapping without regret
Treat layouts like loadouts, not marriages: build the group board before dungeon nights, the solo board before farming weeks. Players who 'save' their stones for a perfect future build are the same players running the wrong layout for a month — the system is designed to be lived in.
If you're pre-endgame
Stigma decisions matter most at endgame; while leveling, take whatever smooths the road and don't optimize. Revisit the board seriously when normal XP ends at 45 — that's when your class choice and board start compounding.
